Food insecurity was a big problem during the Great Depression and is still a big problem today. Food insecurity is not knowing when or where your next meal is coming from. During the Great Depression, almost half the kids were without food, shelter, and medical care. In 2014, sixteen million children are living in child poverty. There were many causes for food insecurity during the Great Depression. One of the causes was when the stock market crashed and stocks became worthless. When the stock market crashed, people could not pay back their loans to the banks and multiple banks closed. Therefore, families lost their life savings because the banks closed.
