Public speaking is an important tool for all, whether it is a student giving a course presentation or a corporate executive finalizing a business deal, public speaking is the hallmark of a successful outcome. Public speaking skills also speak volumes about the personality of an individual. Generally individuals with an introvert personality find it hard to get their message across to a group. I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

Everyone Needs Fulfillment and Joy (ENFJ) If asked what the letters “ENFJ” stood for, many a passerby on the street could answer correctly, “Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging,” a personality type based on the popular Myers-Briggs Type Indicator questionnaire. Some disregard the growing interest in personality tests as a fad, but that does not dismiss the fact that America has become increasingly concerned with personality, specifically with that of the extroverted student. In the article “Bring On the Elites!”, Joel Stein argues that education should better prepare students for the future, and many teachers use this reasoning to justify a focus on nurturing communicative abilities key to extroverted personalities. However, despite…

Speech Anxiety A time I had experienced speech anxiety was the first time I had to give my senior project speech in front of my peers. The night before my speech I had stayed up all night writing my speech and that morning I finished my power point. Writing the speech at the last minute was not the best idea, but I was fine because my speech was about something I had passion for at the time. Decorating the power point was not all that bad either.…

This project helped me understand the South Korean culture and how it has impacted Aaron’s life thus far. Learning about Aaron’s wonderful journey as a military member in South Korea, to becoming a successful exchange student in the United States as a student here at Dordt College, was one of the most interesting series of conversations I have held with a fellow student here at Dordt College.
