Causes Of Fear In Today's Society

1st Reason Fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. In general, people fear things that they do not know about. When someone feels threatened, they may try and either avoid the situation or get hostile. Foreign things may seem harmful until one learns about the actual aspects of them. A huge fear that is in today’s society is fear of religion that is different than one’s own religious beliefs. Today’s society is much more diverse than it was in the early 1900’s. There are people from different countries bringing different cultural traditions and different religions with them. Society is slowly beginning to accept ‘change’. Proof of this is the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same- sex marriage and interracial couples becoming more common. Most women from the Middle East wear some type of head cover. Students not knowing the exact reason why she covers her hair could begin to pick on her. The most common insults made towards Middle Eastern people range from calling them terrorists to asking whether they are apart of the terrorist group ISIS. Assumptions such as this could cause not only verbal bullying but physical bullying. Bullying is a main problem in public school systems and it usually is due to not knowing or assumptions. There will always be conflict in schools, but making religion a required class will help out all students. The more students learn and discover the more comfortable they will feel about a topic or someone. Learning about different religions not only will help with social skills but also may help one with personal values. One could spend their whole life not knowing what religion they actually are and then learning about religions may open their mind to a new way of
