The Amazon Rainforest is threatened primarily by deforestation by logging, clearing for agricultural purposes and by cattle ranching. The Amazon Rainforest is also threatened by global warming which contributes to the death of rainforest trees . 2-3% of all deforestation from 2000-2005 of the amazon rainforest, was logging wood to sell to timber companies and then to consumers. Logging in the Amazon is illegal without paying tax and correct duties to the government, however it may be the only source of income for poor people living near or in the Amazon. 35% of all deforestation in the Amazon was caused by agricultural farms e.g 593 kilometers squared have been cleared for soybeans in the amazon alone in 2011. 70% or 450,000 kilometers squared
