His downfall was brought on by himself. His pride was also a major cause of it as well. He was in fact the king and the hero of Thebes. The people of Thebes were wondering who killed their former king, King Laius. Oedipus says that he will kill the person who killed the king. One of them was that he found out the truth in the end. The truth was that he was in fact the murderer, he was married to his mother, and that in the end he would be blind. He figured it out in the end after he was told he in fact was. His wife who was also his mother killed herself. He blinded himself. I think him blinding himself was just a way to get attention. But then again, he also could’ve blinded himself so that everyone could see how bad he felt about what he did. His pride was one of the major problems that caused all of this. In the end Oedipus learned what happened.
He learned when it was too late. If he hadn’t been so blind within himself, the situation may have ended differently. It wasn’t only his fault though. It was his wife’s fault to an extent. His wife was the one who sent her son (aka Oedipus) to be killed because she got a prophecy that her son was going to kill her husband and marrying her. A big mistake she made was when she mocked the gods. She basically said that the gods were wrong and had no idea what they were saying. If she listened to what they were saying and thought about what her prophecy had said, things would’ve been different for
