In “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote, friendship causes people to become closer because it causes Buddy and his friend to go out of their way to give each other a gift and it also causes them to be inseparable. First, Buddy and his best friend become close because friendship causes them to go out of their way to make each other happy. For example, Buddy’s friend really wants to get Buddy a bike (she even tries to sell a cameo to her Papa to get money) but because she had very little money, she just makes him a kite.
