Gender imbalance not only a result of female infanticide, but the imbalance also leads to other violence as well. There should be around 105 women for every100 men. However, in China the ratio is only 94 women to 100 men (Gupta). With this great unbalance of women to men, many will not be able to find wives in the near future. In 2020, 40 million men will not be able to find a spouse (China’s Lost Girls). With the low supply of wives people have turned to violence to get to women. The violence is already present to day and as time passes the violence will continue to get worse. The effects of the imbalance include prostitution, forced marriages and the kidnapping of women. The women held under these conditions are being treated badly and many are beaten, bruised, and have broken bones if they ever found and treated (China’s Lost Girls). One woman was abducted and sold for only 435 American dollars to a man that forced her to marry him. The man repetitively raped her until she produced a son. This woman was one of the lucky who was rescued from her husband (China’s Lost Girls). This true story is only one of the many who suffer this fate today. Because families are only allowed to have one child, they tend to spoil them. The term for these spoiled kids is “little emperors” (China’s Lost Girls). These “little emperors” get whatever they want including food. In Beijing for example, there is a, “consistent and rapid increasing shift of overweight/obesity in Chinese metropolises in recent years” (Ji).
