World War I was a significant and greatly corrosive war because it took everything away from the Germans, causing their economy to gradually decline, and eventually leading to the beginning of World War II. The immediate cause of World War I was the assassination of Austria-Hungary's Archduke, Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary believed that the Serbians were the reprehensible group for committing this act because they knew Serbia was angered by the upcoming annexation of territories they believe should be theirs. After the assassination, chaos began to set in as countries allied together and, in a confusing sequence of events, declared war on other countries for their own personal reasons and benefits.
Some countries did not have a reason to implicate themselves into the war besides the fact that their ally was involved, causing them to be “guilty by association”, and forcing them to enter the war. Germans only wanted the war to occur so they would have the opportunity to show off their weaponry, voluminous army filled with many men, ships, and airplanes, and most of all to show off their strength and power. The sinking of the British cruise liner, Lusitania, was a very pivotal moment in the world war. On the Lusitania, there were approximately 130 Americans. The Western Front was much less commodious than the Eastern Front because the Eastern Front extended over a much larger portion of land, making the battlefield more spacious. The Western front was also much different from the Eastern Front because of trench warfare. The soldiers that fought using trench warfare found shelter in squalid trenches that mainly consisted of dirt, mud, bugs, and were surrounded by several dead bodies. The government did not inter those slain in battle because the number of deaths was too great and most of the bodies had been completely
