Procrastination: A Psychological Epidemic

Many people in today 's society consistently procrastinate. Procrastination is a psychological epidemic. Many people find themselves procrastinating and trying to find ways to help manage their procrastination. I will be taking a deeper look into why human natural patterns resort to a stability of procrastination and how individuals overcome it. Also learn and understand ways to fight and manage procrastination. As well as the different types of procrastination and how it affects people and the different levels and stages of procrastination. Most psychologists see procrastination as a kind of avoidance behavior, a coping mechanism gone awry in which people “give in to feel good,” (timothy pychyl, line 64) Avoidance behaviour was best sought …show more content…
Such as times when I had to pay a bill. Or get ready to go to a concert with my friends and buy a ticket to go to our favorite artitst shows or a concert at a local bar. Even throughout school such as late night studying or doing projects, work, and extra assigments. I find that myself and others all procrastinate in some way or form. Many other people in society of all ages from kids, to adults, even college students face this problem. Psychologist William J. Knaus "estimated that 90% of college students procrastinate. Of these students, 25% are chronic procrastinators and they are usually the ones who end up dropping out of college." (William J. Knaus, line 19)Some people 's procrastination is more serious than others and some leaving them with severe consequeneces. Dr. Joseph Ferrari Ph.D. was explaining how procrastination is psychological and people tend to stay near patterns and there is many forms of procrastination. Each individual can suffer from their own form of prorcrastination. Each form varies from the others based on the type of person. Procrastination is serious and a ongoing psychological epidemic. There are three different types of procrastination. Arousal type, who wait until the last minute to complete something for the euphoric rush. just simple things as Asking someone to help you complete the task. This will pressure you to do the task cause you are working with someone else. Temptation is a huge distraction and a leading cause on why people procrastinate. Research shows that if you eiminate temptation to do omething else. You are less likly to procrastinate. Also a very good practice to help manage procrastination is to focus on the success you will achieve and the joy you will feel. it may seem as if currently it is eminent but you have to look past. realize your time management and complete your task. Some other simple ways of trying to manage your prorcrastination is by creating lists or even creating a guideline. some very useful straigties and tips to overcome prorcrastination is to start your task immediately. Stop over-thinking the task, stop waiting untill you are done with something. Just do it now. Sometimes you need to jump right into the task even if you think you aren’t ready. A jump start is sometimes better than no start. Also turning everything off! Eliminate all distractions. Turn off your television. Your cell phone. Close your door for you can be avoid interruptions. Whatever it takes to give you a distraction free zone. Time is very important when managing your prorcrastination it is often useful to set timers. Set a timer for a short duration. Whether it is ten, fifteen, and twenty minutes. Dedicate yourself to working for
