“The Effects of Cyber Bullying”
Cyber bullying is a common occurrence in today’s society. It can be interpreted as either sending mean or threatening texts or picture messages, spreading hurtful information about another person using your phone or computer, or even pretending to be someone else online to hurt someone. Kids and teenagers cyber bully because they want one of many things. These wants they strive for are peer acceptance, revenge, to show dominance, and sometimes they are just looking for attention (Sanders). These victims of cyber bullying can become physically sick over what is happening to them (stopbullying.gov). Kids who are made fun of for being either too fat or skinny will generally being to start skipping meals or binge eating. For those who are skipping meals this leads to either anorexia or bulimia. A less detrimental health issue is victims developing headaches and stomachaches. Normally these victims are always worried over what their bully will do next therefor that head and stomachaches will arise. Next is Stomach ulcers and skin conditions. Victims are always stressing over what these bullies have done to them. They constantly are rereading the hurtful words that are being posted or said about them. This causes the victims to develop stress acne and even stomach ulcers. Insomnia or sleep deprivation may also occur. More times often than not these victims will lay awake all hours of the night thinking of what the bullies did to them that day and what they will do next (Gordon). A more severe form of sickness is depression. The victims of cyber bullying will begin to feel isolated. Generally these victims will begin doubting their worth and value and no longer feel worthy. What happens next is the act of harming themselves in some way. Kids who bully others can also engage in violent and other risky behaviors into adulthood. Because they have are always so used to getting what they want these bullies don’t learn the life skills such as working together with others. Also, they have trouble making and keeping friends. These children also sometimes do poorly in school. In the future days to come bullies are often seen to abuse alcohol and other drugs. They will also do things such as partake in fights, the vandalization of property, and sometimes even drop out of school. They sometimes will have criminal records and even be abusive toward their romantic partners, spouses, or children
