Informative Essay: Why Are Tobacco Products So Popular?

Tobacco products are very popular amongst people and have been for many years. It is not like a fad where it is popular for a while and then people forget about it. What makes it so popular? It can be very harmful to people and yet people still act like it does not affect them. Even though it is not easy for people to stop using tobacco products. There are many programs that can help people quit using tobacco (Moody-Thomas 646-652). The outlaw of tobacco products would lead to tobacco no longer being the number one cause of death in the world (Moody-Thomas 646-652). From 2011 to 2014, the use of electronic cigarettes have tripled amongst teenagers (Raloff 18-21). Teenagers find no harm in smoking electronic cigarettes. But, electronic cigarettes can cause major damage to the lungs and make a person more susceptible to germ exposure. The original idea behind electronic cigarettes was to get people with tobacco addictions to stop (Raloff 18-21). That didn’t work. Electronic cigarettes contain nicotine (Which is what makes cigarettes so addictive), but not any of the other chemicals that are in regular cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are battery operated and turns one of the many nicotine flavored liquids into vapor. Many people are choosing to use electronic cigarettes because it can be used in many indoor places. They can be cheaper than some cigarette brands. They can also be customized by color and flavor. In 2014, over two million students in the United States used electronic cigarettes, there were over four hundred brands of electronic cigarettes, ten states let children under the age of eighteen buy electronic cigarettes, and poison control was called a little over four thousand times due to electronic cigarettes (Raloff
