Imagine this: a kid drives to a house party and gets blacked out drunk to talk to a pretty girl that is across the room because obviously no guy has the balls to do it sober. He ends up getting the girl to come home with him, but doesn’t want to pay for a taxi so he decides to drive back with her. As he’s driving, he passes a red light and loses control of the car and crashes into a tree. He loses consciousness for a couple of minutes. He then wakes up and sees that the girl’s body through the window and now is dead with her body hanging outside. His nightmare isn’t over, but it has just begun and he is now facing years in prison while also having to struggle with the emotional trauma he has caused himself and the family of the dead girl. Drunk driving is another term for when a person consumes alcohol and then proceeds to operate a motor vehicle or any type of vehicle. It is prohibited to drive drunk by the authorities and has huge consequences if you get caught. Drunk driving is affecting the United States because people are driving drunk every second of the day and it ruining this country financially because of how much it costs from an accident. Everyday people in America are dying from drunk driving crashes and it costs the United States $199 billion every year (Intoxalock). “An average drunk driver drives more than 80 times before they get arrested for the first time.” 300,000 people drive drunk everyday and only 4,000 are arrested and even after they get their licenses suspended, they continue to drive. Police officers have arrested more than one million drunk drivers and 20% of those offenders continue making the same mistake and get caught
