Biological factors include, perfectionism, sensitivity, perseverance, and your genetics. Changes in your brain or hormone levels could also give you a greater risk of developing anorexia. These changes could affect the part of your brain that controls your appetite, leading you to not be wanting to eat. There could be a link between anorexia and serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical produced in the brain. Having too much of serotonin could lead to acute stress and anxiety. Also, women who get anorexia could have modified levels of dopamine in their brain. Dopamine can cause hyperactivity, repetition of behaviour, and anhedonia. The environmental factors include peer pressure or being bullied, a cause of anorexia could simply be someone telling another person at school that they are fat. What a lot of people don 't understand are words do hurt and if someone is struggling with weight changes, or self consciousness, they could be the reason for someone to develop an eating disorder such as anorexia. Being included in activities where being thin is ideal is another potential factor. Dance or sports such as swimming, gymnastics, or soccer are examples of those sports. Someone could feel pressured by their teammates, or coaches to be thin leading them to become anorexic. For some individuals thinness is a badge of beauty. They may feel like they will always have to be five pounds thinner, or always have to skip a meal in order to be beautiful. For some individuals, they feel that they must be thin to feel successful. Personally, I disagree with this statement. I do not feel that for someone to feel success they must be thin or look a certain way. This may seem crazy, but this is what a lot of young women struggling with eating disorders are feeling. Another environmental factor could be pressure from the media.
