The leading cause of injuries to women is domestic abuse-more than car accidents, muggings, and rape combined3. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of his/her color, ethnicity, economic status, sexual orientation, race, gender etc.

Physical abuse is the most violent type of abuse, and it includes the perpetrator hitting, throwing, smacking, punching, choking, and doing anything physically that puts the victim 's life in danger. Emotional/psychological abuse has more to do with words. In an emotional/psychological abusive relationship, the perpetrator may use hurtful words and phrases, as well as threaten to hurt themselves or any of the victim’s belongings in order to force him/her to stay in the relationship. Financial abuse is when the perpetrator controls finances, denies victim access to any money, forces him/her to pay for everything, does not allow him/her to work, uses money without victim 's permission, uses money as a form of power; for example, the perpetrator might tell the victim that without them they’d be homeless. Sexual abuse is when the perpetrator forces the victim to engage in unwanted sex, unprotected sex, rough sex, and any other unwanted sexual interactions12. Sexual abuse is also considered rape because of it not being consensual. Domestic abuse is hurtful, no matter which kind it is.
One major problem with domestic abuse is how lightly it is taken. Often times, on tv shows, movies, and commercials, women are seen being hit by men, but somehow being turned on by the act.
