Life, Death, and Effects of 9/11 September 11th, 2001. The 9/11 suicide bombings led to a series of changes throughout history. The bombings targeted symbolic U.S trade marks, the North and South twin towers. 19 Al-Qaeda members hijacked a plane, within 42 minutes, two 110 story buildings were demolished. There are many short term, and long term effects to this catastrophic attack such as: Tourism, airport security, and worst of all, ongoing wars. An example of a short term effect would be tourism. In the following weeks, New York City’s hotel occupancy fell to below 40%, and 3,000 employees were laid off. Tourism plummeted. This led to approximately 430,000 jobs being lost and $2.8 billion in lost wages over the three months following the 9/11 attacks. (Michael)

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have come to a total cost of $5 trillion (Suzy), that’s $16,000 per American; $64,000 for a family of four (Thompson). Over the time period of these wars, over 6,000 soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan alone. 44,000 have been wounded, and most of the soldiers who managed to return suffer from depression. 20% suffer from TBI (Traumatic brain injury). When the U.S invaded Afghanistan, they destroyed Al-Qaeda training camps, but in the process managed to wound over 29,900 civilians. in total, 91,000 at the least, have died. This is including Afghans, civilians, soldiers, and militants. And all that is without the 360,000 indirect deaths caused by the war, it also doesn't include those who died in Pakistan. So in total, the minimum number of people who died during the war is approximately 457,000. The war lasted a total of 13 years, 2 months, and 3
