Academic Cheating
Statistics show that cheating among high school students has risen dramatically during the past 50 years (Cheating Fact Sheet). The cheating that goes on in schools has increased greatly due to students having stressful, time consuming jobs, what seems like neverending sports, or they may just be plain, old lazy. Students find themselves stuck in a pit often times with no clue what to do and in that case it is very easy to take someone else’s paper and write down their answers without them having do the slightest bit of thinking.
Jobs are a really easy and understandable excuse for a lot of students. From going to your job right after school or after a sports practice up until late at night, often times it is really difficult

Many students are learning to balance high academic expectations with the pressures of being athletes (Young and Stressed). Late practices and games are huge contribution to not getting homework done in time, therefore it is easy to copy off from someone else’s homework in the hallway before school or during a class. Typically, practices will start right after school and may go until five o’clock or sometimes a few hours past that. With this being the situation, it is really easy to forget about the homework assigned or the students might be too tired or too lazy to even do it. Majority of high school students are just lazy in general. There are some who just do not care about their academic achievements, and there are others who just do not feel like doing their homework. Either way, this is another really easy escape to not doing homework and it opens a window to cheating and using someone else’s work. Some may consider cheating the easy way out when really it is the hard way out. You are not going to be able to advance in your studies if you cannot even do your own. Whether your excuse be that you worked to late, too worn out or did not have time due to a sports practice or game, or if you just did not have the energy, you are the one who does not learn. Academic cheating is just too common of thing to not do anything

There are numerous reasons why students cheat. In the article Instructing Students in Academic Integrity, according to the authors, “ Cheating tends to be justified when students feel that the material that they are learning is not relevant to educational and personal goals”( Craig, Federici, and Buehler 50). When students don’t feel like an assignment is necessary, then they will simply ask to copy another student's work just to get it done and get the assignment points. This is a very popular trend, especially in a course that doesn’t matter or interests the student.
