Causal Analysis Growing up with Spanish as my first language, I never thought that Spanish would impact my life with many positive and some negative situations. One positive example is that I am now bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish and have various opportunities awaiting for me when I graduate college. However, I do not believe that the negativity of some situations will come to an end! Sadly, the negativity is all about, in my opinion, ignorant people who say, “This is America. Quit speaking Spanish.”, but that comment does not stop me from speaking the language. Some people do not realize how effective knowing a second language will be in the future especially if the language is taught at a young age. Teaching a student a …show more content…
Toddlers remember something that is repeated to them over and over. For instance, my cousin is a two year old who already knows both Spanish and English. Many people look amazed when they hear her speak both languages, but there is no secret. A child who is being taught Spanish will obtain and remember more of the language than a person who is being taught as an adult. An adult does not seem too gather as much information and remember the information like a toddler would. Learning Spanish at a younger age is a lot easier than learning as an adult. The toddler will also benefit from knowing Spanish from a young age. Communication is the key to this world. When the toddler becomes an adult, he or she will be able to communicate with Spanish and English speakers anywhere he or she goes. The best time to learn a new language is when a person is learning how to …show more content…
For example, when Hispanics are having a wedding and about to give out invitations, they go and give the invitations in person instead of mailing them. This is a sign of respect to the people who are being invited. The family being invited will usually say if they will be able to make a presence to the wedding or not. Hispanics rather call families to invite them to a gathering than sending out invitations through the mail. People outside of the Hispanic culture do not know what Hispanics find rude. Many of us do not know what Arabians or Russians find rude because we do not know their culture, but learning a foreign language will allow a person to become open- minded about new things and will more than likely respect cultural differences. My father owns a construction business, and a few years ago, he met a couple in Cowan, Tennessee who needed some work done. In the couple’s living room, they had various compact discs that were Mexican music. Both families grew closer and closer week by week that we became a family. Both of my grandparents, as I now call them, quickly learned Spanish, and they learned a lot about our culture and respect our beliefs a lot more than they once did. Being able to communicate with other people in a different language will help people understand different

Carlene Carmichael, in “Teach Them Spanish Early, Too”, argues that Americans in California should be taught Spanish at a young age. Carmichael supports her argument by saying that young Americans should have the chance to learn basic Spanish (reading and writing) and learn together with other children who speak and know Spanish. She also says those who learn Spanish will have a greater opportunity to compete for jobs that require both languages. Therefore, Carmichael asserts that Americans who do not speak Spanish are at a disadvantage because some jobs require them to speak Spanish.…

After interviewing a close friend of mine, and listening to the interviews from my peers in class, I am deeply overwhelmed. This is because their case is very similar to Richard Rodriguez’s reading, Hunger of Memory, the Education of Richard Rodriguez. Rodriguez talked about assimilating into the American culture, and adopting English as his first language. He described how his family stopped speaking Spanish to him, and continuously promotes English language in the house. Initially, I see no harm in learning a new set of language, or trying to fit into another culture.…

Probably due to the fact that my family is Spanish and that half of my relatives speak Spanish only. I never got into learning Spanish, and well they couldn’t blame me, I only started speaking English when I was six. Before that I was using basic sign language which I have now forgotten.…

Recently I decided to change my Spanish minor to a major. My reasoning for this change is that I can spend more time in the Spanish culture and have a better understanding of the Spanish language. I plan to pursue a career in the medical field and having a comprehensive understanding of the Spanish language will allow me to reach more patients. Latinos represent 16% percent of the Spanish population and are the fastest growing ethnic minority group. For this reason, I have chosen to study Spanish over other languages such as Mandarin or French.…

In contrast, Anthony stated while he can speak Spanish, he does not feel as confident with it as he does with English. I had asked Anthony whether or not he believed learning Spanish at home or at school made the process easier. He said learning it at home was easier for him because it was less structured and more of what he would be exposed to on a regular basis. He went on to say the type Spanish taught in schools is rather traditional and not what many native speakers use on a regular basis.…

Learning a new language could even be compared to having the ability to teleport, in the aspect that having a new language under one’s (figurative) belt facilitates the ability to travel. Another magnificent opportunity that comes from being bilingual is the ability to meet all kinds of new and interesting people. One can learn from these new people, and begin to understand things that one has never personally or directly experienced before. And who knows, interacting with a new person could influence the appreciation and practice of a new and exciting hobby, this interaction can bring about some new ideas, tastes, books, and whatever else contributes to make the life more valuable and meaningful.…
