As the sun lowered over the horizon, the atmosphere transformed into a stellar display of reds. oranges, yellows, and even purples. The incoming night air swept over everyone, goosebumps forming on skin as the sun fell down for the day. Not a star could be seen, nor a hint of blue, for the entirety of the hemisphere was bright and vivid. This was a perfect night, it seemed, for a rocket launch. Standing on the bridge, I gazed over at the still water far below, mesmerized by its reflections, as the rocket towered above every structure on the island ahead. The chatter of friends and strangers alike filled the air as spectators braced for the moment they had been waiting for. The contrast between the brilliant twilight and the rocket would make for a superb launch. “Hey, you should come up here,” She beckoned, arm reaching out to me. “You’re just going to push me down again, aren’t you?” I chuckled, not willing to fall victim to her exploits another time. “Probably,” She remarked, pausing, staring up at the beauty that filled the sky, “But this view would be worth that risk.” I relented, reaching to her outstretched arm. As I reached the top of the support, my view was filled completely with the stunning sights from before. She was right; the landscape looked so much better from this vantage. “Just in time, I think we’re starting soon,” She noted, and I was filled with excitement as we stared forward, waiting for that familiar sound. The rocket’s engines began to stir, and flames burst out of the ends. The crowd fell silent, the entirety entranced by the event. A large roar filled the air, like a huge beast waiting to be awoken. And awoken it was, the roar growing in volume as more fire spilled out of the bottom, the supports straining against the thrust, before finally giving way, and sending the rocket upward. A trail of fire swept across our view, following the engines skyward. Birds squawked and flew away from the rumbling as the crowd’s gaze shifted toward the heavens.
