In 1989, in Indianapolis, Indiana IMPD officer Cathy Waterman worked second shift. There was a lot of action and excitement. On one call, she chased a man with a gun who broke into a older woman's house and held her hostage. She and another officer wrestled the gun from the bad guy and saved the older women’s life. She won the Red Cross Life Saving award. In 1988, Cathy dropped out of medical school and decided to pursue a law enforcement career instead. When Cathy had seven years on the department she met Mike Faulk, another IMPD officer. Before Mike joined the police department, he worked as a volunteer firefighter at the Hazelwood Fire Department. Like Cathy, Mike worked second shift, too. In 1998 Mike and Cathy got married. Mike was a rookie with one year experience at the department when Cathy met him.
One day when Cathy was working she and other officers got called to a person with a gun, and when they arrived shots were fired and an officer was fatally hit. Two years later, Cathy had Sean, their

One day Cathy pulled over a car. When she got out of her car to get the drivers information, she tripped on the curb and broke her ankle. This is when Mike was still on patrol. Cathy was off for weeks. Today Cathy has 27 years on the department and Mike has 22 years on the department. After Cathy joined the department she became a field training officer (FTO). Cathy has trained many rookies and she loved being a field training officer. Cathy knows she had chose the right career to do. There’s a bad thing about being a police officer, it’s that you have to deal with the thought of getting shot and killed on the job. The good thing about being a police officer is that you help people and save lives. In the future you should always do the right thing. The police department pay a decent amount of money.
