Catholic experience means to me the different experiences one has between religions. I have visited a Catholic and a Mormon church for services. The Catholic Church believes all children need to be baptized as infants in order to be recognized by god, if not they will be doomed for purgatory. While in the Mormon Church infants are not baptized. They believe that all members must have knowledge and most importantly accept god before being baptized. Another difference between both religions is marriage. The Catholic Church requires you to be a member of their congregation and meet certain rules and requirements before getting married. While in the Mormon Church there are no requirements, nor do you need to be a member.

I have experience many different rituals and sermons within the Catholic church that were definitely not the same as the sermon and salvation ritual of baptism that I experienced at Mercy Hill. The major difference that stood out to me, between the Catholic church and Mercy Hill, was that Mercy Hill seemed to be more less traditional than the Catholic church. Mercy Hill used music that seemed to be along the lines of Christian rock music, as where in the Catholic church we use hymnals that consist of the traditional church songs. Also, in the Catholic church there are priests, not pastors like at Mercy Hill Church; the difference between the two is that a priest is not allowed to get married or have children, but a pastor is allowed to do both. What I see between the Catholic church and Mercy Hill is that the Catholic church has more control over it’s…

I am not a Priest, but a religious Sister from Tanzania lived in the US for 10 years. When I read the Cross Catholic Outreach job posting, even though deserved for priests only, I felt interested in doing the job for the poor even for volunteer basis. Christianity and Mormonism share several similarities but there are also many differences that separate the two religions. The origins of the religion, morality, worldview, view on afterlife, and purpose of the religion are things that are important to consider when comparing the two. Christians believe that mankind was created by the one and only sovereign God. The Christian worldview maintains the idea that God created the world and everything in it over the course of six days. On that sixth day God created Adam and then Eve using one of Adam’s ribs.…

I visited Lutheran Church in East Brunswick, NJ and observed the prayer service which was a great learning experience for me and an enjoyable one, too. Since I had attended prayer service at my middle school church as well as Oratory Prep school church, I had some understanding about Catholic service and I was able to compare and contrast the Catholic and Lutheran service. The Lutheran church did not have depictions of Saints or Mary in the Church. Otherwise, the service itself was fairly similar but some differences were noteworthy.…

Before I stepped into St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, I thought that attending Catholic Mass would not be all that different from the Protestant services I grew up attending. However, I felt out of place as soon as I walked through the front doors. Everything felt foreign to me; from the way the building was set up, to the way people behaved during the service, to the way everyone exited the church. As an outsider, I felt lost and almost lonely as the masses around me moved in unison and I was left trying to follow along as best I could. I did not feel that Mass was welcome and open as the services of the Protestant churches that I am familiar with.…
