Many are confused, angered, or disappointed about the Roman Catholic Church’s position on homosexuality, indeed even many devoted Catholics themselves don’t often fully understand the reason behind the church’s stance on homosexuality. This essay is intended to objectively bring awareness to the teachings of the Catholic Church and clarify misunderstanding, therefore the following is not of the author’s own opinion and is not written with the intent to hurt, criticize, or judge anyone who believes otherwise.

Pope Francis on Homosexuality.
In many ways, Pope Francis is very progressive however many of his positions are not contrary to the church’s teachings. Much of what he says about homosexuality goes on pair with the teachings of the Catholic Church
The following are two quotes are from Pope Francis’s Apostolic Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia:
1. “We would like before all else to reaffirm that every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration, while ‘every sign of unjust discrimination’ is to be carefully avoided, particularly any form of aggression and violence” (Francis, 2016, p.190).
2. “As for proposals to place unions between homosexual persons on the same level as marriage, there are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family” (Francis, 2016,
