Improved Essays
Many are confused, angered, or disappointed about the Roman Catholic Church’s position on homosexuality, indeed even many devoted Catholics themselves don’t often fully understand the reason behind the church’s stance on homosexuality. This essay is intended to objectively bring awareness to the teachings of the Catholic Church and clarify misunderstanding, therefore the following is not of the author’s own opinion and is not written with the intent to hurt, criticize, or judge anyone who believes otherwise.

For some, there is reason to doubt the scripters due to the possibility of mistranslations of biblical text as well as historical and cultural differences. The catholic church however, continues to have faith in the hard work put forth

2. "The man who has intercourse with a man in the same way as with a woman: they have done a hateful thing together; they will be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” (New Jerusalem Bible Lev. 20:13).
3. “That is why God abandoned them to degrading passions: why their women have exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural practices; and the men, in a similar fashion, too, giving up normal relations with women, are consumed with passion for each other, men doing shameful things with men and receiving in themselves due reward for their perversion. In other words, since they would not consent to acknowledge God, God abandoned them to their unacceptable thoughts and indecent behavior” (New Jerusalem Bible Rom. 1:26–28).
4. “Do you not realize that people who do evil will never inherit the kingdom of God? Make no mistake the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, the self-indulgent, sodomites, thieves, misers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers, none of these will inherit the kingdom of God” (New Jerusalem Bible 1 Cor.

“Sodom and Gomorrah, too, and the neighboring towns, who with the same sexual immorality pursued unnatural lusts, are put before us as an example since they are paying the penalty of eternal fire” (New Jerusalem Bible Jude 1: 7).

Pope Francis on Homosexuality.
In many ways, Pope Francis is very progressive however many of his positions are not contrary to the church’s teachings. Much of what he says about homosexuality goes on pair with the teachings of the Catholic Church
The following are two quotes are from Pope Francis’s Apostolic Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia:
1. “We would like before all else to reaffirm that every person, regardless of sexual orientation, ought to be respected in his or her dignity and treated with consideration, while ‘every sign of unjust discrimination’ is to be carefully avoided, particularly any form of aggression and violence” (Francis, 2016, p.190).
2. “As for proposals to place unions between homosexual persons on the same level as marriage, there are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family” (Francis, 2016,

In Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality the author, Jack Rogers, Professor of Theology Emeritus at San Francisco Theological Seminary, argues that when people oppose homosexuality in the modern world their reasons can be categorized into one of three points of view. He goes on to explain these three points of view saying, “1) The Bible records God’s judgement against the sin of homosexuality from its first mention in the Scripture. 2) People who are homosexual are somehow inferior in moral character and incapable of rising to the level of full heterosexual ‘Christian civilization’. And 3) People who are homosexual are willfully sinful” (Rogers 33).…

The character Casey, a former preacher, interprets sin as being purely natural and claims that it does not have much relation to the bible. Casey rejects his religious background when it comes to the topic of sin, doing so because of his divine interest in women. One of the reasons Casey left the church is because of his attachment to women and passion, which in the preaching world is sin. The bible represents purity without women and Casey denies that assertion and states that women and human passion are natural which then makes sin a natural necessity in life. ‘Here’s me preachin’ grace.…

Quoting from Schlafly whose article was included in Donald Critchlow’s Debating the American Conservative Movement: “Our Judeo-Christian civilization has developed the law and custom that, since women must bear the physical consequences of the sex act, men must be required to bear the other consequences and pay in other ways.” Schlafly contended that the ERA would “force women to work outside the home, abolish alimony and child support, and make women subject to the military draft.”…

In opposition to the scriptures, Womanist Theology embraces sin, “[A womanist’s]… universality includes loving men and woman, sexually or nonsexually.” (Williams, 1) Moreover again, “The womanist loves other women sexually and nonsexually. Therefore, respect for sexual preferences is one of the marks of womanist community.” (4) A person seeking biblical spiritual development should not overlook this element present in Womanist Theology because the Scriptures are abundant on not allowing for sexual sins (Rom. 1:26, 1 Cor.…

There is a wide consensus among both early and modern commentators that themembers of the first group of sinners, those who shout ‘Sodom’ (lines 40 and 79), aremen (and apparently only men, if one is to rely solely on the textual evidence) who havehad same-sex relations. If one is to use the medieval term, they are ‘sodomites’. Thesouls from the second group, described by the enigmatic adjective ‘hermaphroditic’,reprove themselves by shouting the exemplary story of Pasipha¨e (lines 41–42; 86–87).According to Ovid, Pasipha¨e was queen of Crete and wife of King Minos.2Havingbeen cursed by the god Poseidon, she fell in love with a bull and having entered aspecially constructed wooden cow (the ‘rough-hewn wood’ of line 87), mated with itand gave…

The Bible, for instance, condemns homosexual intercourse for the same reason it condemns masturbation: because life-bearing seed is spilled in the act. While this ethic was largely taught, maintained, and enforced by the Catholic Church and later Christian offshoots, it’s important to note that the ethic comes not primarily from Jewish or Christian Scriptures, but from Stoicism…

In most cases, these fables are told through a heroic male character, blessed by God or a god, who fulfills a destiny defined by his relationship with divine will, often as a leader of the community or nation, or as a savior of his people. However, in rare cases these stories will accentuate a particular value through the use of female protagonists, thereby placing a deeper emphasis on their behavior…

In this day and age, it’s difficult for sex to not be a main topic of focus, because it is everywhere. It’s on the cover of magazines, in movies and television, on billboards, the internet (especially the internet). It’s commonplace to the point most of us don’t even bat an eyelid, and within this (relatively) recently sexualized society, non traditional sex is becoming increasingly popular. Threesomes and group sex, anonymous hookups, BDSM, none of it has really been popular, or openly discussed, in the modern era until the last 50 years or so. Even within the last 5 years there have been great leaps in popularity, with the release of films and books such as 50 Shades of Grey.…

Anything other than a monogamous relationship in a marriage, anything other than husband and wife, any other sexual relationship to any degree, is pornographic and contrary to God's standard. Now, let us again be mindful that God is not entirely against sex; after all, He invented it for human pleasure, even though people erroneously say ‘it is just for procreation’. On the contrary; sex is to be enjoyed but only to be engaged in after having followed and completed the process that makes you and your conjugal partner legally married, and absolutely not to be abused or indulged in…
