I think teaching these children at such a young age, the horrors of bullying, it will become engrained in their brain and they can help us to prevent it. Like the chapter says, I decided to think small. I did not have these extensive power points ready or huge packets of homework for the students to “help them learn” because none of that ever helps. I walked in with a worksheet with bullet points that I knew I needed to address, allowing space for their questions. I know these students would be supportive because no one wants to be the victim of bullying, it is a scary unknown factor that can happen to you at such a young age. And while, some do not get bullied, they spelled their school career worrying that it might happen. All I want for these students to know are the facts. The action I want them to take is to stick up for others, having each other’s backs, and not being afraid to tell an adult of what is going on so the victim can be helped. It is possible to expand these classes outside of the religious borders though. I could take Action 15 and write a letter to newspaper editors. Starting with the seventh grade classes on the 29th of October, I and the women and men who run the religious education program will teach different classes, since my schedule does not allow me to visit every class during their actual class time, and I know it is the same for the other teachers. Within a week of the 29th, every class should have learned about bullying and helped me to begin the campaign towards our bully free world. I will be sending letters home this week to the parents to inform them of the different type of class for the following week. Writing the letter to the local newspapers will begin in the main office of the religious education building, where the heads of the religions classes and myself will brainstorm to write our letters to the newspapers. The local newspapers will most likely only include Newsday and the Daily News, to start
