Catherine the Great, Yekaterina Alekseyevna in Russian, was bound to the heir to the Russian throne at the young age of 14. Sophie Friederike Auguste Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst was a German- born princess. At the beginning of her reign, she overthrew her husband Peter after he began cheating on her. Now without Peter she accomplished several things for Russia and was a principal leader of the Russian Royal Family. Being born German and ruled Russian Catherine the Great is a significant person in history from building hospitals to expanding the country of Russia, she is a true queen.

The first thing Catherine built was a statue of Peter the Great; she called it the Bronze Horseman. In her early reign from about 1762-1764 she made several foreign policies. In doing this, she hoped to strengthen her neighbouring countries. Her primary goal was to increase the people's trust in her. Therefore, Catherine would have the country's greatest support if anything happened. The people including her military, she did not want to be overthrown like her husband Peter. The next thing Catherine created a document called a наказ in Russian or a mandate on how the legal system of Russia should be run. Aside from legislative issues, Catherine managed to devote much of her time to the education system in Russia. She wanted to expand on education. After deciding among several plans, she decided on one in 1786. This program was said to provide a large scale education system for Russia. However, she was not able to successfully carry out the entire plan. She was able to add several elementary and secondary schools to Russia but not in the numbers she had hoped. Catherine was also able to expand Russia’s borders. She ordered over 144 new towns and cities to be built. Managing over four per year during her reign. Towards the end of her life and reign, she was worried about her hair Paul. Paul was showing very extreme behaviour unfit for a ruler. She contemplated several times taking away his title as heir to the Russian throne. Before she could make the change however, she dies of a stroke on 6th of November
