The plot is that Pigott goes to Gambia, finds comfort in their standard of beauty, comes back to Canada and reverts back to our standard of beauty. The setting for the story is Gambia and Canada, and the characters are Pigott, the african women, or the unnamed people in Canada. Furthermore, the phrases Pigott uses “I began”, “I tied”, “I felt” are all indications that she is writing this story from her POV, and uses an informal tone. If I were to use my own words, the implicit thesis of this essay would be that our idea of beauty is subjective, and different societies will shape that idea of beauty.
