I was able to comprehend her situation because my grandfather died due to a sudden medical issue. Due to this experience, I was able to relate to the characters in the story. Carver is trying to tell us an important lesson that tragedy is central to life. Life goes on even as the most terrible things happen to others, and we and there’s nothing that can be done to avoid it. We often don’t think about that when the situations are going well. In tragic situations, we feel connected, even though we have little to say to each other.
