Personal Connection: What is your reaction to the text in relation to the setting?
I was honestly, fairly surprised about the story taking place in Sweden and I formulated this opinion based on my personal bias. I believed that the Scandinavian countries were more forward thinking and had an overall better quality of life compared to other regions of the world. I found it slightly unrealistic for a story such as this to occur in Sweden. Crime occurs everywhere, but a major crime such as a museum heist is not one I would typically expect to occur in a country such as Sweden. I was also under the impression that the Swedish Government took better care of its citizens specifically its elders. I made this assumption because I knew that Sweden had a typically higher average lifespan, so I assumed that this meant that Swedish seniors received better care in their old age. Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg is from Sweden, therefore I find it realistic that she simply wrote about things she could relate to and found it easier to write a story that occurs in a country that she is very familiar with.

Their reasoning to rob the museum is to stand up for the treatment of seniors everywhere. By committing the robbery at the National Museum they are taking away prized possessions of Sweden and its citizens. By stealing something as valuable as two prized paintings it draws more attention to the subject matter. For example, if they robbed a company and just stole money it would have drawn less attention to their cause. By physically stealing something that cannot be replaced it causes a larger sense of panic opposed to stealing money or other meaningless possessions. It also brings the situation to the eye of the public and the need for improvement of seniors
