Years later I look back at my foolish innocence and open my eyes to what really happens behind the closed gates of SeaWorld. Shamu and other orcas alike are put on a spectacle with lights, music, and talented trainers for the smiles and laughter of the audience and used as a ticket selling mechanism for the multibillion-dollar company. In 2013 a documentary film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite was released on national television on CNN; this film is known as Blackfish. In the background, the archived 911 call of a mean reporting Dawn Brancheau’s death. This puts the audience on edge, thinking they’re about to see her being killed, yet the woman in the film is not dawn but instead a different performer conducting a trick with the whale. This whole scene forces the audience to jump to conclusions, which the audience has to do anyway to understand the muddled argument of the movie. Along with false authority, the entire movie is a collage of different stories from the ex-trainers, none of which experienced any of the tragedies they talk about firsthand. Instead of showing conclusive evidence Blackfish tells stories about what have possibly happened.…

Making himself credible, Stewart made sure to inform the audience that he has a degree in Biology and is also a professional underwater diver and photographer. In crediting himself, this lets the audience believe that he is correct about the biological facts about sharks and the ocean that he presents throughout the documentary. To provide further credibility for himself and the documentary, Stewart has numerous biologists and shark experts to speak on behalf of shark behavior and cruelty. For example, to credit his claim that sharks do not harm humans often or on purpose, Stewart has a shark behaviorist speak about how rare shark attacks really are, and that they only bite people out of curiosity, not to do any real harm or to “eat” the person. With having a biologist that specializes in sharks support Stewart’s facts and main points, this makes the documentary much more believable and credible.…

Inner Boston Harbor's Thompson Island is a gem of an easy access spot if you're looking for fishing the flats for striped bass or deeper and structured-waters on the same plus bluefish. Access is good: kayak fishermen can use the little-more-than-a-mile-from-the-island hand-carry at City Point, ditto the ramp at Malibu Beach, Neponset for powerboaters with trailers with four-wheel drive. In addition to flats fishing on the island's back side, Thompson holds within its contours two tidal marshes and a large sandbar and bunker that connect the island to Squantum's Squaw Rocks mussel beds at low tide, themselves a good bait source. And because most anglers prefer Boston harbor's outer islands, the Brewsters and so on, or the Faun Bar off Deer…

SeaWorld has made several online statements about the inaccuracy of Blackfish. The most impressive of these statements was a 32-page document outlining many of Blackfish’s inaccuracies with cited evidence. For example, SeaWorld points out how most of the “SeaWorld trainers” interviewed in the film never worked with Tilikum, and how the film uses outdated information and footage to ignore SeaWorld’s modern facilities and protocol. News outlets still unfairly consider SeaWorld a target anyway, because Blackfish appeals to emotion while SeaWorld fights back with facts. Blackfish in news articles is often framed as if the film’s producers are underdogs stepping up against the soulless corporate entity that is SeaWorld.…
