In 2010 documentary took Cannes by storm and became the buzz. The term catfish emerged and it was in everyone's mouth, Twitter and Facebook page. Nev Schumann became the big sensation at the Cannes movie festival. Nev documented his journey of meeting a young woman name Abby who had catfish too. The documentaries spun off a new show on MTV. Nev was joined by his sidekick Max on the road as he helped other people find a meet other people that they thought they were in relationships with that ended up being catfished. The shows have been on the air for the last five years and is been rare that the person that the that is in the relationship is the person on the other side. We often see people pretending to be men or women, military veterans, or active military or even the same rates of the …show more content…
They're also very many scams where people have been scammed out of thousands of dollars. There was a woman who was on Dr. Phil who hit send a man over $500,000. He had told her that he was stuck in Africa and waiting to go back home to France. The reason why he was in Africa and stuck in this country was because he lost his passport in the Embassy would not let him go home. Once Dr. Phil was able to do research and found out this was a 419 scam. This woman had no hope of getting her $500,000 back from this man. When track down they found out that he was in some sort of café in Nigeria with multiple men scamming is stealing men and women out of money across the world. They are often used emotional stories to bring in their victims and tie them in a get them attached. The sad thing is there's no real regulation or no real way to get their money back or stop these people from doing this. There've been many shows articles and books written talking about catfish and stolen identities over the years. Most people think Catfishing is just on the dating side but, it can be affect people dating or living a normal
