For my category 1 event, I chose to attend the writing lab. My expectations were high because at orientation I had heard so many great things about it. However, I was expecting all of the wrong things. I expected to sit down one on one with someone who was going to read my paper and help me fix the errors and talk to me about structure and content. The lady I met with did read my paper, but after reading it she just told me that it was good and asked if I needed specific help with any part or parts of the paper. I was diasappointed, but I know that they dont get paid to correct our papers. They are simply there for help. At the time I went, the lab was not allowing students to make appointments because it was the first week of school. I just

On November 1, 2016, you were assigned a project to make minor revisions to Standard Procedure 001:48:1, Disposition of Authority Property. Following the assignment of the project, you were instructed by me to: • Correct language errors, if any, in the published document On November 18, 2016, you submitted a draft procedure to me with the language error corrections you were recommending. The approximately 15 one-word recommendations you made included the following errors: • “Maintains an inventory of stored furnitures for use in Central Office (CO) locations.” • Coordinates the transfer and disposal of office furnitures at CO locations only. (In both cases above, you added an “s” to furniture even though the word furniture is an uncountable noun.)…

Upon arrival myself Officer Chad Stephenson (141) along with Cadet Josh Stankiewicz (156) and Cadet Michael Birt (120) we also noticed the odder coming from room 405. After confirming there was a smell RA Essen called CLA Lucia Rothaas (375) to assist with the room search, I then called Director Cindy Birdwell (309) to inform her that the RA’s were doing a room search and we we’re there to assist them, Director Birdwell said ok but if we find anything to freeze the scene and call her back to decide what are next move would be. During my junior year at Stephen Decatur High School, I was enrolled in American Literature with Mrs. Moore. At first I thought she was a hard teacher because she made us write a lot. I enjoyed writing creative pieces, but in her class she gave us a prompt or we had to analyze a text and prove how the author believed in the American Dream or not. The first essay we wrote I scored a 29 out of 30 and was proud of myself because English has not always been my strongest subject. Our next assignment was on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.…

Edwin Land once said, “An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail.” In the two different writing, both authors come from very different backgrounds, but have similar messages. Amy Tan talks about not being afraid to do what you love, even if people tell you that you should major in something else. Anne Lamott discusses how you should not be afraid to write your first draft of a paper, it is suppose to be horrible. In her essay, “Mother Tongue”, Amy Tan discusses the hardships with her and her mother’s types of English, while in “Crummy First Drafts”, Anne Lamott talks about getting over your fears when writing the first draft of a paper; both of the authors essays vary in structure and tone, but have similar styles and purposes…

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

For example, “This creates a health concern because then the consumer can become infected with the bacteria that’s resistant in the meat.” I gave an explanation into why the resistant bacteria was a concern to the people. Even then, I feel I lacked into giving more detail. Moreover, in the same argumentative essay I didn’t give a strong point that supported my main point. “ In the article, “We’re fatter but Not Smarter,” Shannon Brownlee, states how Elliott Bloom became with the idea of “smart research” a survey that indicates what type of consumers are eating the most at Taco Bell restaurants.…

I remember the first time I wrote an essay that was being graded at the college level. This was in my junior year when I took AP Language and Composition, our first essay was a rhetorical analysis essay from a very old excerpt that used old english and was very hard to read. When I first started reading the passage I started to get nervous because I didn't understand what the text was saying but then I started to annotate and the passage began to make sense. I found many rhetorical strategies that the author used and I then began to outline the essay in my head.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

The idea of humanistic perspectives on learning is extremely prevalent in my first grade classroom taught by Nicole Mckelar. In first grade, there is a curriculum that is needed to be followed, but there is so much more than just curriculum that Mrs. Mckelar teaches to these young minds, and the most important thing that she teaches is how to be a better person. There has never been a time in her classroom that children have gotten in trouble for not understanding or completing a task, but she has gotten very angry about students misbehaving and disrespecting others. For example, Britney and Chelsea were cleaning up their toys and Britney grabbed the blocks right out of Chelsea’s hands and Chelsea yelled at Britney. In response, Mrs. Mckelar…

As can be read in my teacher’s nomination form, I can add much to the discussions that are a huge part of the Communicative Arts. This activity displayed how we at Mid Pacific distribute our trash. In order to find this information we took trash from our cafeteria and saw what students thought should go in the trash can because not everything you throw away is actually trash. I learned a lot about waste and how a lot of people do not throw it away properly. What shocked me the most was that so many people threw their plastic bottles in the trash can. At our school you are able to leave the bottle on top of the trash can and it will be taken later to the recycling bin.…
