“Catching Fire”, the sequel to the popular dystopian book, “The Hunger Games”, by Suzanne Collins, might just be better than it’s predecessor. The story takes place in Panem, a country that was formed from the ashes after the United States faced calamities and is divided into twelve districts including the capitol. The main characters in this story are both Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, star-crossed lovers and survivors of the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Both Katniss and Peeta live in the run down District 12, where they go about making their daily lives as victors until tragedy strikes again with the third quarter quell. This book surpassed my expectations because I expected to read a sequel that was better than the original, yet the way that the author wrote the book really captured the essence of the first book and morphed it into something fresh and exciting. The only choice I wish Suzanne Collins had taken would have been to tell the story of the first quarter quell because that way we learn more about the history of Panem. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to other teen readers because its more mature than a regular child’s book yet it isn’t serious to bore the reader. Suzanne Collins made this book specifically for a younger audience and she succeeded in doing so because even though the book came out years ago I hear about people enjoying this book. After reading this book, I plan to read Girl at War, the main factor that makes me want to read that book is the fact that the main protagonist is still a teenager and due to this I feel like I’ll have a better connection to the
