The theme of the hunger games was sacrifice it was full of sacrifices starting with Katniss taking her sister’s place at the reaping both her and peeta sacrifice themselves. The main themes of catching fire was survival,and sacrifice also struggling In Between independence and interdependence peeta takes haymitch’s spot in the new hunger games and troops occupy district 12 and gale gets whipped Katniss steps in and gets hit and Haymitch stops all of it.

At president snow's celebration Katniss meets Plutarch heavensbee the new head game maker and he shows her his mocking jay watch. After this president snow realizes he needs to kill Katniss or something will end of happening so he starts the quell games which is a game against the winners of other hunger games. Haymitch is drawn to go and peeta sacrifices himself and takes his place in order to stick by Katniss’s side. Cinna makes a dress for Katniss that turns into a mocking jay when she spins and this is a sign of rebellion against the capital not only that but all the players join
