Dystopian books are books where people live in a place that is always unpleasant or bad and someone is usually fearful for their life. In a utopian book everything is perfect and happy. Dystopian books have many similarities but also some differences. My two book titles are The Giver and it is written by Lois Lowry and Catching Fire written by Suzanne Collins.

People in Catching Fire don't all have a home and some live on the streets. Most people don't have a lot of food and go days without it. (Collins 30) People in the Giver all live in a dwelling. (Lowry 11) They get 3 meals a day no matter what job is assigned to them. The living standards in The Giver are much higher than in Catching Fire. Another similarity in the books is the punishment the people get if they do something wrong. In Catching Fire if someone do something wrong that person will either get whipped or shot by the peacekeepers. (Collins 127) If someone break any laws the peacekeepers will kill that person. In The Giver if someone breaks the rules, that person will be released. When someone gets released they inject that person so they will die. (Lowry 186) In both books the punishment for not obeying the government is harsh.
