In Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins A series of characters showed duplicity. Haymitch show it the most to Katniss and Peeta. Finnick and Beetee show it in the arena with other tributes to not let Katniss and Peeta know what their plan is.
Haymitch lied to Katniss through the book to try to save her and Peeta. “At least in the Hunger Games, I knew that I was being played with.” (Collins 385). Haymitch never told Katniss about the plan and Katniss doesn't like it. Then Haymitch says that this is why nobody lets you make the decisions and she says that in the games at least she knows that she is getting messed with. “We are currently on a very roundabout journey to district 13.”(Collins 385). Haymitch told Katniss there was no district 13 so she wouldn't ruin the plan.“The others kept Peeta alive because if he died, we knew there’d be no keeping you in an alliance.”(Collins 187).
