I recently finished the second book in The Hunger Games series, Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins. I would recommend this book to anyone in grade four or above because it is graphic in some parts but not over the top. I would especially recommend this book to people who are not confident in the science fiction/dystopian genre but want to try it out.
I rated this book a 10/10; it is probably one of my favourite books of all time. I enjoyed this book more than the first one in the series which is unusual as the first books are typically the best. I liked this one the most because it showed a more emotional connection to the characters that the first one. You could really feel the pain that Katniss feels in this book whereas in The Hunger Games book it focused more on what she was doing to survive.

This excerpt shows the emotional connection that you develop with the characters,
“I lie down on the sand with Peeta, who drifts off at once. I stare into the night, thinking of what a difference a day makes. How yesterday morning, Finnick was on my kill list, and now I’m willing to sleep with him as my guard.”
If you read the book, you will get to know how Katniss feels about the other victors; she finds it hard to trust people. That is why this passage shows the reader how Katniss feels about her situation and the people that are there. It helps you to get to know her better as a person.
In this book, I see many important themes. One of them has to do with loyalty and trust Katniss ends up being loyal towards people she does not trust and trusting people she knows that she can not always stay loyal to. Thsi is a dilemma that Katniss faces in both the first and second book. I think that it is even more important because Katniss finds it difficult to trust people
