Silent Suffering What is Depression? Depression is a mood disorder that can cause feeling sad and anger and loss of interest in your daily life. Depression in teens is commend between the age of 15- to 24-year-olds. About 20-25 percent of the teens will experience depression before they reach their 20s. Depression will double the teen’s change of suicide by 12 times. 40% of the teens who killed themselves were diagnosed with depression. Teens with depression will have some kind of social problems with their friends or family. There is high possibility for them struggle with school or finding jobs. The symptoms of depression in teens is either physical or social withdrawals. Physical symptoms of teen depression are stomachaches, headaches, …show more content…
In the book Holden had mentioned killing himself multiply times. In chapter 18 he talked about how his happy that scientist invented atomic bombs He said if there is going to another war he would go seat on top of it. “Anyway, I'm sort of glad they've got the atomic bomb invented. If there's ever another war, I'm going to sit right the hell on top of it. I'll volunteer for it; I swear to God I will.” (18.7) People around Holden no one is was noticing that Holden have depression everybody thinks that his just some kind of a weirdo but Holden is not a weirdo notice that he has a mental health problem and he can get seriously hurt from it. In chapter 20 Holden thinks about his death again he talks about how he doesn’t want people bring him flowers when he died. He doesn’t like it when people reaches out to him. When you die and people bring you flowers they are showing their love and respect by bringing you flowers and Holden doesn’t want people to reach out to him even when his death. “Anyway, I kept worrying that I was getting pneumonia, with all those hunks of ice in my hair, and that I was going to die. I felt sorry as hell for my mother and father. Especially my mother, because she still isn't over my brother Allie yet.
