We never truly appreciate life until it flashes before our eyes. We are all gulity of not living life to fullest. Life is meant to be lived and people are meant to be loved. It's our choice whether or not we let life fly by us without truly and fully living it. Things happen so fast and if we don't pay attention we'll miss them.
There's no way anyone could fortell what was about to happen. Dread filled the pit of my stomach as I sped to the hosiptal. I thought it was nerves that plagued me through0ut today, but it was something far more worse. Dread. That was it was. My gut was telling me something bad was going to happen, I thought that what I was feeling was just nerves.
I reach my hand over and took Brayden's into my own. He had been

Within a couple of hours they all had drifted into a light sleep. Worrying takes a toll on a persons body and mind. It wears a person out. It was only natural in a situation like this that they had worried themselves to the point of exhaustion. Brayden had his head leaned over on my shoulder. Tom had fallen asleep in a recylner in the corner. Colten and Holden had fallen asleep leaned against each other. The only ones who were awake, were Blake and I.
Blake was leaned over in his seat with his head in his hands. We hadn't spoke once since the others had fallen alseep.
The waiting room we were in wasn't very large. There was around a dozen chairs inside the room. Only a couple of them were reclyiners. The smell of dissinfectants and cleansliness that was so prominent in hostipals was not missing in this room. The walls were as white as new fallen snow. “ I kept picturing myself catching him In the act, and how I’d smash his head on the stone steps till he was good and goddam bloody” (Salinger). One one would assume this came from a violent person, a person with problems controlling their anger but no, it comes from 17 year old Holden Caulfield who just wants to be loved for once in his life. When we first meet Holden we see the dilemma that he goes through throughout the entire book. He goes on this journey, both mentally and physically, and it starts when he leaves his ‘phony” school Pencey Prep. Throughout this struggle we see Holden’s true form and how it's affected him.…

J.D. Salinger wanted to make a statement about the vulnerability of innocence as well as highlight the struggles a teenager faces when confronted with his future. He does this by creating a character currently dealing with a quarter life crisis; Holden has no clue what he’s going to do with his life, is severely depressed and is in constant conflict with growing up and adulthood. Holden Caulfield is confronted with an unfair challenge; like most modern youths, at the tender age of 16 he faces the the impossible choice of what he’ll do in life. First of all, it is cruel and immoral for him to be dealt with this issue as he is still stuck in a child-like mindset and even references how people his age are “practically children” (Salinger 147).…

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is a story about childhood, and of finding one’s self in society. It is the story of Holden Caulfield and his everyday encounters and problems with other people in society. The story depicts a week in the life of Holden, a week full of events and encounters that permanently change his life forever. In the Catcher in the Rye J.D. Salinger uses the character of Holden Caulfield, conflict, and setting to convey the theme that although the world may seem to be full of phonies or difficult and boring people, one must find a way to overlook his individuality and coexist in society. The first literary technique J.D. Salinger utilizes is the character of Holden Caulfield.…

There are no obvious differences about the club as I enter through the front doors, the heavy scent of cologne continues to pervade the air, the lights remain dim, even Clyde resumes his duties behind the bar. Yet the unsettling sense of something missing continues to gnaw at me. Of course, it's Angelo's absence, I didn't realise his presence gave so much influence to the club, such a strange sensation, like the heart of the club, has been removed, leaving it lifeless. I have to wonder if anyone else senses this, or only me?…

Salinger shows his attentiveness toward the rhythms of speech by using italics quite frequently in order to let the reader know when a character is placing emphasis on a word, or even on just a syllable, in dialogue. The emphasis of a single syllable shows a realism to the dialogue of The Catcher in the Rye rarely seen not only in the works of Salinger?s time, but also before and after it. Salinger?s emphasis on the rhythm of speech is mirrored in his emphasis on the rhythm of thought, which, in turn, emphasizes the importance of both. Salinger uses paragraph breaks not only to change from one subject to another, but also to accentuate certain thoughts. In another demonstration of his literary brilliance, Salinger shows that he knows the human mind by using shorter paragraphs for more important matters.…
