The Catcher in the Rye
This book can teach you many life lessons. The book is about Holden Caulfield, a young man who has been through a lot. He is writing this story from a mental hospital, recalling the events that brought him to the mental hospital. The author is trying to prove that everyone wants to be the catcher in the rye, including Holden Caulfield, who is the main character. Holden loses his brother at a very young age. We will all lose our siblings or die before them, but it’s not common to lose them at a young age like that. He tells us that he was kicked out of school, even before mentioning he lost his brother. This is odd because his brother dying left a bigger impact on him than the fact that he was kicked out of Pencey, a school full of phonies. Phonies play a big part in his life because he thinks everyone is a phonie. This might be because he feels insecure about himself, so he isolates himself. He feels that he loses everyone close to him, so he doesn’t allow himself to get close to anyone else. He has shut himself down for the most part emotionally and socially.

The life lessons expressed in this story are not as direct as some life lessons, but when you put the pieces together, you can find a few life lessons here. A clear one is the life lesson of doing well in school. As Holden has explained he has been kicked out of every school he has attended. He is obviously disappointed in himself deep down, but he isn’t making the changes needed. The good reading experience can be credited to the author and helps the reader want to continue to read the book and become engaged with it by using their imagination.
