Holden calls several people he knows including Sally Hayes, a girl he has dated in the past. Holden talks with her about why he dislikes school tries to persuade Sally to run away with him to live in a cabin in Vermont. After leaving Sally, he meets his old student advisor Carl Luce. Holden tries to get Luce to discuss sex with him, but Luce gets irritated with Holden’s remarks about homosexuals and leaves.
