Into The Wild Symbolism Analysis

Does everyone see actions and objects the same as each other? Do objects represent moments of time the same as they do for other people? How do some people recognize objects as being symbolic of other momentous occasions within a story? Symbolism is the use of natural objects or facts to convey ideas or qualities to the reader or viewer. Symbols are more commonly used, throughout literary pieces, as a way to project how an author perceives certain objects and people that the characters encounter throughout their journey. Certain objects and people are usually tied to certain styles of life or situations that the character may be encountering within the book. The purpose of symbolism is to allow the readers to make connections between the text and what may actually be significant in that chapter. Similarly, when something occurs in a film it may not always be simply what is shown on the screen but have more behind the scene to convey to the viewers. However, not every reader or viewer is going to make the same connections as the next one. Symbolism is meant for multiple explanations to occur as the result of a significant scene of moment in a character’s story. In both the novel and the film there were numerous symbolic objects of occurrences that different readers may have different understandings on. In The Catcher in the Rye the sense of uncertainty or desire was conveyed through the title of the novel itself, and in Into the Wild the sense of alienation was conveyed through the significance of the hat and belt. Symbolism is something that is very significant throughout most literature, and additionally it gives readers a way to make personal connections to moments and objects placed in the books so as to help with furthering their comprehension of the book they may be
