After reading “Catch the Moon” and “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant one can conclude that the two stories have similarities and difference. The short story “Catch the Moon” is about a disobedient teenager named Luis who works off community service hours at his dad’s Junkyard but when he was stalling to clean hubcaps that his father wanted him told him to do a girl named Naomi came to the Junkyard and asks Luis’s father to search for a specific hubcap for an old vintage car and when Luis sees Naomi he instantly falls in love with her and looks for and cleans the hubcap that Naomi looked for and also made a display of hubcaps for his father's job and goes to Naomi’s home to give it to her to see if he’ll get the girl. One difference is that Luis from “Catch the Moon” get the girl he fell in love with at the end of the story and the boy from “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” does not get the girl by the end of the story. This is apparent in the story when Luis he was outside and Naomi saw him and was happy so Naomi drew the curtains to see him. On page 240 it says “Naomi pan to the window and drew the curtains” ( Cofer 240). Whereas “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” the boy did not get the girl by the end of the story. On page 249 the author writes, “her coming over to me once the music was done to explain she would be going home in Eric Caswell Corvette” (Wetherell 249). In addition we see that another difference between the stories is it takes Luis from “Catch the moon” A day to impress and talk to Naomi but in “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” the boy took a whole summer to ask out Sheila Mant. In “Catch the Moon” When Luis goes to her house and spends time with her outside of her window. On page 240 the author wrote “... waited to give her the first good thing he had given anyone in a long time.” (Cofer 240). By comparison, in “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” the boy waits till august to impress her by taking her to the fair. We can see an example of this on the text page “It was late August by the time I got up the nerve to ask her out” (Wetherell 245). It is evident without a doubt, “Catch the Moon” and “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” have similarities and differences. Mainly we see “Catch the Moon” is most different of the two because Luis was much older and had more confidence but in “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant the boy did not have much confidence and didn’t get the girl he fell in love
