Catalina Pizarro Altamirano was around 20 years old when she gave birth to the man who would later defeat and conquer the entire Aztec Empire. His name was Hernan Cortez. He was a Spanish conquistador whose explorations and conquests led him to great fame. He was born in 1485 in Medellin, a town in Western Spain which is now known as the Castilian province of Extremadura. He was born into an aristocratic family who were fairly well-known due to the fact that his father, Martin Cortez de Monroy was an officer in the Spanish Army.

His parents wished for Cortez to gain a higher education and sent him off to study Latin and law at the tender age of 14. His parents held high hopes for their child to be able to live a successful life with a lucrative career but much to his parent’s dismay, he had returned home only two years later tired

After the fight with Velazquez, he confronted Montezuma and killed him when he was told that Montezuma was unable to get the Aztecs to accept Cortez as their leader. The death of Montezuma led to the fall of the Aztec Empire in 1521.
Faithful to his own religious beliefs, he helped spread Christianity as well as farming throughout New Spain in 1524. Three years later, Cortez was suspected of poisoning enemies who were trying to aid him. The King of Spain sent many rulers to support Cortez but they ended up ill. To prove that he was not guilty of the crime he was accused of, he returned to Spain to await the news of his crime in 1528.

Although Cortez was free of all charges from the crime he was accused of, he was unfortunately relegated from the position of the governor when he returned to Mexico in 1530. At the age of 62, he had taken his last breath and passed away in 1567. He had not much significance in his later life and was constantly ignored and disrespected even though he was a great explorer as he was filled with much
