The Journey of Catalina de Erauso Erauso’s mysterious and twisted journey of gender identity crisis, deception, lies, addictions, and the death of a sibling, all began in the 1500s. Erauso was born to his/her father Captain Miguel de Erauso an officer in the Spanish army and mother Maria Perez Galarraga both happen to of been native residents of the Villa. Catalina was first sent to a convent upon age four as well as her two sisters. Due to the nature of Erauso’s temper her parents decided that she was not capable of an arranged marriage and ,instead, they decided that she would become a nun. Catalina was eventually captured after his ship sank. Luck once was again in Catalinas favor when the Dutch Admiral Jacques l’Hermite died and the Dutch’s attack was called off. Catalina was abandoned miles away from Lima but was able to find his way back. Later he found his way to Cuzco, where he ran into “the new cid” a local gang leader. Later Catalina gave into one of her addictions once more, gambling, Catalina happened to be on a streak and winning large amounts of money, but once “ the new cid” believed it was large enough he felt as though he was entitled to a portion of the money, “ the new cid” did this twice and upon the third try Catalina took a dagger and nailed “the new cid’s” hand to the table and this was not taken lightly by “ the new cids” gang and Catalina barely made it out of the gamblers den alive. “EL Cid” followed behind and a fight was fought. Catalina was injured horribly and presumed he was going to die, so he went to make one last confession to a local priest telling the priest everything starting from San Sebastien and ending with Cuzco.
