Tennessee Williams won a Pulitzer Prize with two works, those works were a streetcar named desire and Cat in a Hot Tin Roof. Tennessee Williams was born in the year 1911, in Mississippi. His name was Thomas Lanier Williams when he was born, He later changed his name after moving to New Orleans at age 28. Williams’s childhood was hard because although he was a happy boy, his life changed after his family moved to St. Louis Missouri. As a result of the urban life he now had, Williams turned inward and began writing. His parents were not a happy marriage, the home felt tense. It opened in 1955 and went through 1956. This play was significant because it was the first major production. Some of the people in the play included Barbara Bel Geddes, as Maggie and Ben Gazzada, as her husband Brick. Burl Ives as Big Daddy and Mildred Dunnock as Big Mama. There were many productions after that one and I am sure there will be many more. However, one of the most recent revivals is one that opened in the year 2013 at Richard Rodgers Theater in New Yew York City with a total of 84 performances. The play was directed by Rob Ashford and the cast included many talented people for example, Scarlett Johansson as Maggie, Benjamin Walker as her husband Brick, Ciarán Hinds as Big Daddy, and Debora Monk as Big Mama. It is an important revival because it is the most recent one. It is also important because some of the details from the original play have been changed throughout time from the Broadway production in 1955, to the 1974 revival.
