Doing this dissection has helped me learn that cats and humans and all types of different creatures have similar systems but are differently in characteristics and the location and function. I have learned to new things from each system while doing this lab. The procedure perform in this lab helps teach many people that our systems we have are very fragile and unique at the same time and we can learn a lot from these labs. In one of the write up we did the integumentary system which is the largest organ in the body the skin. Doing the procedure we followed I learned that the cats skin was a three layered organ which consisted of the epidermis the top layer of the skin which had a faint

The last procedure we did was the bones and brain. This part of the lab was the most interesting part because we got to learn and study the bones and the brain of the cat. When we had to do the hip surgery I never knew that they don’t take out the socket because that would affect the persons walking after so they make certain incisions and separate the bone and muscles, then you use a metal ball tip tool to stick it in so it doesn’t affect the other parts of your leg. Doing this allows you to put the muscles back in place making a successful surgery. The brain was also interesting because when you remove it is one of the most difficult things in the world. We had to make incisions, and then peel the skin back and scrape the skull away then carefully remove the brain without damaging it. I never knew how a brain looked in animals and was very similar to a human’s brain. Our global awareness of this types of dissections has lead us to wonder if all animals are similar to humans, and wonder what can we do to continue our studies. For example of global awareness is that we do it to help others in the world for example we study Ebola to help other find a cure or help them contain it. For finical awareness we can make millions or even billion’s helping

The dermis is the inner and thicker layer of the skin and is a fibrous connective tissue that provides strength to the skin (lecture supplement, ch.6). When injury or damage occurs to the skin, it goes through 4 different phases to repair itself. The first being homeostasis because of the body and its structures natural response to keep things the same at all times. The second stage would be inflammation, where the damaged and dead cells are cleared out of the wound. The third stage is proliferation where new tissue is grown to replace the damaged tissue and its structures.…

Underlying the skin is the subcutaneous layer, or hypodermis, this layer is not a part of the integumentary system but is vital to its function. Made up of a layer of loose connective tissue the hypodermis serves to connect the skin to underlying muscle and bone (142). The hypodermis also assists the overlying skin by supplying it with blood vessels and nerves (Vanputte, Regan, & Russo 149). Superficial to the hypodermis is the deepest skin layer, the dermis.…
