Cat And Pluto Similarities

The significance about the new cat and his markings is its resemblance of Pluto. As recalled by the main character, he noticed the new cat has a missing eye like Pluto did. However, the main comparison between this cat and Pluto was the white splotch, covering the region of the breast. When Pluto was murdered by the main character, there was a rope around him that caused his death. Similarly to this, the narrator discovers the representation of the white splotch is the gallows. Thus, this shows the cat symbolizes Pluto and the guilt the narrator has for killing Pluto. As said in this short anecdote, it stated, “It was now the representation of an object that I shudder to name—and for this, above I say, the image of a hideous—of a ghastly thing—of

Whether it is told directly or it is integrated in between the lines, all written pieces have the sense of a deeper meaning. While Edith Wharton tells the story of Ethan’s desperate hopes and attempts to leave his dreary life, she employs different themes, symbolism and foreshadowing to convince the reader that his doomed fate was fixed from the start. In the novel “I Am a Cat” there is talk of many different ideas and issues, one of such being the current state of our world, and the problems going on of this time. Many characters offer thoughtful reflections on what they think to be the problems facing the times they are living in, such as Waverhouse’s view on the current state of marriage and how it is failing because people in their society are becoming more individualistic (pg. 452-454). However, Professor Sneaze’s thoughts of what the problems of his times are have more to do with self and suicide, rather than marriage. His reflection on becoming self aware seem to have the most relevance to the life of the nameless cat who is our narrator. According to Sneaze a certain kind of self…

How is this true we may never know or that we do know the reason, but they are too afraid to admit about it at all, but in the end the symbols in the story are the color red, Zeena’s pet cat, Zeena’s best dish, and the winter snow that falls over the town of Starkfield do in fact play important and even major roles in order to shape the story to its famous images. Each of these four symbols that Wharton uses helps shape and brings that story to life and without them readers will never know or even understand how the story got the images that it has in Ethan Frome that made to really unique and enjoyable to the readers in real…

Behind every story there is a greater meaning. In Nadine Gordimer “Once Upon a Time” and Anna Quindlen “A quilt of a Country”, symbolism plays an important role in going beyond the surface meaning of the meaning. Both the cat and the quilt symbolize something more than what they seem, the cat shows the irony between precautions and our safety, while the quilt shows that America is built from parts that do not match. In Nadine Gordimer’s…

This causes him to make many bad decisions. “Because I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offense; - hung it because I knew that in so doing I was committing a sin - a deadly sin that would so jeopardize my immortal soul” (Poe 2). These souls are waiting as they experience judgement if they can immediately enter the state of heaven or if they are to be destined for hell. Purgatory has been thought of as a physical location by others but some popes believe the opposite. In Greek mythology, Euripides’ Medea is centered on the wife’s revenge against her husband, Jason, who prefers to be wed to the princess of Corinth.…
