Everybody experiences going from adolescence to adult and it often teaches you things such as respect, dignity and determination. Figuring out who hurt Patrick and realizing who hurt Patrick are two major factors that cause Cat to experience the change from adolescence to adulthood.
Cat experiences growth to adulthood by taking responsibility in finding out who could have potentially hurt Patrick. Cat has to overcome obstacles to stick up for her best friend,"I told myself it wasn't a big deal. Patrick liking boys was part of who he was, but it was hardly the whole picture. (Myracle #90)" Important to realize that Cat has a mountain to climb with her homophobia. It is a major conflict that she will have to overcome if she does want to find the criminal. Without Cat overcoming this mental obstacle, every sequence in this novel would not have been possible. This develops her as an adult because adults face obstacles everyday.
