In this excerpt, Casy a former preacher states that his motive for retiring is due to, his belief in human sanctity, and the unification of everyone. Even more, he declares his reason for his behavior is due to his unreligious, impious belief, and current mind set. Not to mention, the situation being that the soil is in an atrocious state, and they need to harvest crops rapidly in order to gain revenue. I would of behave likewise like him due to, I would do whatever I have to in order to survive, and maintain my family. Specifically, bribing you with unnecessary options to pick up on your interest, thus increasing the vehicle selling price which benefits the salesmen and the dealership in terms of income if sold. Furthermore, in the character's situation the salesman is persuading Joe to buy the car they have been discussing, due to the fact that he could of closed many deals, and not wasted his valuable time chatting. The salesman persuades Joe into buying the car, by offering him his shirt, and a tank full of gas, including begging him due to he has wasted a vast amount of time with him in aspiration of closing a deal.
