Structures were tall and usually placed on hills and mountains to have leverage. They were usually at the heart of the city and they served as a status symbol. If you lived close to the castle, it would mean you would be a high ranking warrior. These castles had a chinese vibe to them because the Japanese originated from there. They are usually pagodas, which are a religious structure and Asia has a big buddhist following. Further increasing their importance with the buildings and giving more a reason to take them down. It served them well since it gave hospitality to the wounded. Castles would conventionally have walls and moats for leverage. These buildings were made out of wood so throwing some fire would definitely take them down as the opponent. Before anybody can get there, Guard towers were available as lookouts and for keeping storage of all the weapons needed. It is especially useful to bow down enemies from there and use the place as a defense. The word Tower defense is very common and has been used to describe these scenarios. Now it begun to be a bit more peaceful, there are no factions trying to kill each other and they have an army and a navy that is merely for self defense, having unity with everyone.
