Concept
Castles. Well, what do we know about castles? A castle served as a fortress, a residence for the nobility and as a means of preserving the rigid social hierarchy of the Middle Ages. The minor purpose of a castle was to be impressive, and to be an assertion of the King’s power over the area he resides in. However, the main purpose of a castle can be seen through military defense: castles were built to keep out any invading enemies by creating a thick series of walls as an urban edge. The reason as to why I wanted to design a model of a castle is because, within my animated film, I created a castle that takes place during the Medieval Times. Once people enter the main entrance, they will witness that the first floor will contain two brick walls that each consist of two pointed arches required to lead to the courtyard on the sides. The courtyards will be an area where young kids from the neighboring town can play and people can relax while enjoying the sun coming from above. Above the main entrance, there will be a huge mural of the King and his family. The floors and stairwells will be made out of marble, and the walls will also have paintings all around. The first flight of stairs will be in the middle of the first floor. If we go beyond and behind the staircase towards this huge wall, we will see a door on the left side of that wall. That doorway leads to a room with two rows of seating and a huge space in the middle where prisoners would fight. This is similar to the Coliseum in Rome, Italy where people of the city, rich and poor, would gather to watch gladiators fight for their lives. Speaking of prisoners, there is a gate that separates the arena from a cold, damp room that prisoners are kept in the dungeon. The dungeon will contain five cells and every day, when the prisoners are let out of their cells, they will spend their time in a huge space to warm up and practice fighting. When it’s time, they would pass through the gate and enter the arena to entertain the audience with their …show more content…
There would be nothing directly behind and in front of the castle: there would only be grass. A cobblestone road will be present and there will be a huge gate that people would have to enter to be allowed in the castle. Looking from your perspective when standing next to the castle, there would be an ocean right in front of the castle and a mountain view miles away from the castle. As for the courtyards, there is one big fountain right in the middle and a few flowers might be able to bloom.

Herstmonceux Castle is centrally located in the picturesque English county of East Sussex. Although its natural landscape has existed since prehistory, this area was not colored with recorded societal culture until after the land itself morphed from seaside Roman and Anglo-Saxon battlegrounds to the peaceful seat of the first English brickwork castle. Since Herstmonceux Castle’s 1402 completion, the single most important timeframe has proved to be that of the 1630s. Sir Francis Lennard, Lord Dacre, its owner at the time, was the great-grandson of the castle’s initial owner and contractor Roger Fiennes.
