On April 20, 1999 (Bernall 0) my whole life changed. My girlfriend, Cassie Bernall, was killed during the Columbine High School Shooting (Bernall 0). We had started dating a few months before it all happened. I was a senior and was just beginning to think more into the future and where I wanted to go to college, but Cassie was playing a big role in my decision as I didn’t feel that I could go without her. Cassie had just told me that she loved me the night before and even though I was shocked at her telling me, I had wanted to say it the day that I had met her. Those were all the students killed. David S., otherwise known as the girl’s basketball and softball teams coach, was the only teacher killed in the shooting (Bernall 0).” The whole family stood in silence as we knew there was nothing that could be done and that we should go on and live our lives, but never forget the love that Cassie brought to the world. Mrs. Bernall gave me a hug and told me that I could now go home.
As I drove home, I again began to recognize other things such as a S.W.A.T. bus (Bernall 7) in front of the school and also a bomb squad. I didn’t realize that the loud booms I had heard the night before were actually bombs going off (Bernall 9). The town seemed dead and there were posters all around such as, In God We Trust.
Cassie and the other twelve victims will never be forgotten (Bernall 0). They will always remain in my heart. As for Cassie, she will always be my one and only
